I am always delighted to read intelligent book reviews. What intrigued me the most about fellow writer Brian Wright's review of Hugh Howley's Wool was the following passage. This, coupled with the title of the piece, is what piqued my interest:
"What made Wool so intriguing was not just that it had an astonishing 12,000 customer reviews on Amazon (the vast majority of which were 4-star and above), or that it had made the NYT bestseller list and was optioned for an upcoming movie. What interested me most was that, at least during its rise to glory, Wool was a self-published novel. "
I am often asked if it is better to self-published or try the traditional route. This review helps make the case for the Indie model. It also provides a guideline for what makes a good novel, and why you might enjoy the books that you do. If you haven't read Wool, try it. If you have, see if your analysis of it agrees with Brian's.
